International Scholarships

Description and Purpose

A limited number of scholarships will be awarded to international surveillance researchers and practitioners to cover travel and registration for the 10th Annual Conference.  The purpose of this scholarship is to provide ISDS members the opportunity to:

  • Disseminate innovative research and practice being done in one of the four conference tracks:
    • Analytical Methods
    • Informatics
    • Public Health Practice
    • Novel Approaches to Surveillance
  • Network with the broader surveillance community

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the ISDS international scholarship, you must:

  • Be an ISDS member at the time of application
  • Submit an abstract for the 10th Annual Conference that is accepted by the 2011 Scientific Program Committee
  • Be in need of funding to attend the conference

Application Requirements

In addition to submitting an abstract to the 10th Annual Conference, eligible applicants must submit the following information to conference@syndromic.org no later than August 19th, 2011:

  • Name, address, institutional affiliation and position title
  • Estimated cost of attendance, including travel, accommodations and conference registration.  Please also indicate whether you have secured partial funding from any other source.
  • Short statement about why you would like to attend the ISDS 10th Annual Conference and/or Pre-Conference Workshops (no more than 200 words).

Awards

Successful scholarship applicants will be notified of award by October 7th, 2011 (after the abstract review and notification process is complete).  If you receive and accept an international scholarship you will be expected to:

  • Present (either oral or poster) at the ISDS 10th Annual Conference
  • Conduct an ISDS webinar presentation at a later date

 

Award decisions will be made based on:

  • Abstract acceptance by review committee
  • Innovation of work described in the abstract
  • Applicant's personal statement
