Dr. Ali Mokdad is Director of Middle Eastern Initiatives and Professor of Global Health at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. In this role, he is building IHME’s presence in the region through new research projects, dissemination and uptake of IHME’s methods and results, and consultation with regional leaders in population health. He also leads the survey and surveillance activities at IHME with his expertise in survey methodology, health surveys, surveillance, chronic diseases and emergency and response.
Prior to joining IHME, Dr. Mokdad worked at the CDC, starting his career there in 1990. He served in numerous positions with the International Health Program; the Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity; the National Immunization Program; and the National Center for Chronic Diseases Prevention and Promotion, where he was Chief of the Behavioral Surveillance Branch.
Ned Calonge, MD, MPH, is the President and CEO of The Colorado Trust, a private foundation dedicated to achieving health equity for all Coloradans. Dr. Calonge is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the Colorado School of Medicine, University of Colorado, Denver, and of Epidemiology at the Colorado School of Public Health. Nationally, he chairs the CDC’s Evaluating Genomic Applications for Practice and Prevention (EGAPP) Working Group and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s (AHRQ’s) Electronic Data Methods Forum Advisory Committee, and is a member of the CDC’s Task Force on Community Preventive Services and of CDC’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection and Control Advisory Committee. Dr. Calonge serves on the Institute of Medicine’s Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice as well as on the Roundtable on the Achievement of Health Equity and the Elimination of Health Disparities. He is a past Chair of the United States Preventive Services Task Force.
Prior to coming to The Trust, Dr. Calonge was the Chief Medical Officer of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Dr. Calonge received his MD from the University of Colorado and his MPH from the University of Washington, where he also completed his preventive medicine residency. He completed his family medicine residency at the Oregon Health Sciences University. He was elected to the Institute of Medicine in 2011.
Dr. Arthur Davidson, a family physician, is Director of Public Health Informatics, Epidemiology and Preparedness at Denver Public Health, Denver Health. He seeks to build integrated informatics applications that support both clinical care and public health initiatives. He was principal investigator of Colorado’s 5-year AHRQ-funded State and Regional Demonstration Project which resulted in development of the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (CORHIO). He served as a founding member of a Federal Advisory Committee: the Health Information Technology (HIT) Policy Committee to the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT, and continues working on the Advance Health Models Workgroup. He currently serves as board chair of the Colorado Health Institute and co-chairs the Interim Executive Committee for an ASTHO-hosted, Public Health Community Platform. He is a member of the HIT Workgroup for the State Innovation Model Award to Colorado. He is an associate professor in the Schools of Public Health and Medicine, University of Colorado Denver.

Beth E. Rivin, M.D., M.P.H. is a pediatrician who has focused on global health for over 30 years. During the last 15 years, she has been actively engaged in the academic and practice area of global health and justice. She is Research Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Global Health and Justice Project at the University of Washington, where she developed the first and only graduate course on Health and Human Rights. She also maintains appointments in the Schools of Medicine and Public Health in the Departments of Global Health and Bioethics and Humanities. She has had ongoing projects in Indonesia since 1999 and currently has an extended appointment as Visiting Professor at University of Gadjah Mada School of Medicine, Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities in Jogjakarta, Indonesia, where she was a Senior Fulbright Scholar in 2011-2012. She is currently PI on a project to build bioethics capacity in Yemeni universities. Her leadership roles include Chair of the Human Right to Family Planning Initiative, Senior Global Health and Ethics Advisor at East West Management Institute, Advisory Board Member of the Centre for Ethics in Medicine and Society in Melbourne, Australia, and Co-Chair of International Collaborations in the Asia Pacific Consortium for Bioethics.

Vivek Singh, MPH, MBBS, Public Health Foundation of India
Vivek Virendra Singh (MBBS, MPH, PhDc) has over fifteen years of public health experience in program planning, implementation, and research for action. Dr. Singh is a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta (2008), Georgia and of the Government Medical College in Nagpur, India (1998). He is currently an Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Public Health, Hyderabad, where in addition to undertaking capacity strengthening projects in surveillance and community health he teaches research methods for Diplomats of the National Board of Examination (DNB). He is also engaged in development of competency-based training and teaching programs in applied epidemiology, public health surveillance and program management. He coordinates the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) and a portfolio of short term training programs at the institute. Dr. Singh is also a research scholar within the international health department of the CAPHRI School of Public Health at Maastricht University in the Netherlands.Dr. Singh was part of the founding cohort of future faculty fellows of the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI). Prior to founding PHFI in 2006, he worked as a medical officer with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Government of India’s polio surveillance project for 6 years in some of the most operationally challenging locations in the country. He worked as a medical officer in-charge of a primary health center in Maharashtra, India. Dr. Singh has also provided technical support to the WHO Kenya Country Office to strengthen polio eradication initiatives and integrated disease surveillance through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) ‘STOP’ program.
Dr. Singh serves as a public health expert in technical advisory groups and panels of UN agencies, state governments, and other health development partners. He has led and participated in program evaluation studies commissioned by state governments, the World Bank, and UNICEF and provides policy advice to state governments and development partners on disease control and maternal & child health programs. He is a member of the board of directors and the global outreach liaison of the International Society for Disease Surveillance (ISDS). Dr. Singh is on the editorial board of the Springer open journal, ‘Earth Perspectives’ and is the Regional Editor for the quarterly reprint of the Lancet in India.

Ronald St. John, MD, MPH
Ronald K. St. John, MD, MPH, has had a 35-year career in public health and infectious disease control in the USA and Canada, and at the World Health Organization, Regional Office for the Americas. With undergraduate, medical and public health degrees from Yale, Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons and Harvard, his career has included the planning, management and policy review of international and national infectious disease control programs, quarantine and migration health, travel medicine, the Global Public Health Intelligence Network (GPHIN), and counter-terrorism. As the first Director General for the Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response in the Public Health Agency of Canada, he was the national manager for Canada’s response to 9/11, and SARS. The Centre serves as the country’s single coordinating point for public health security in Canada.In the past, he worked and lived in Bolivia and the Philippines. From 1980-89, he was Director of Infectious Disease Control and Health situation and Trend Analysis for the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO, the Regional Office of WHO). From1989-1992 he was Deputy Director of the National AIDS Program Office in the Office of the Secretary, US Department of Health and Human Services.
This year he was the Ebola Incident Manager at PAHO with the responsibility of assessing and improving member states’ response to the possible importation of a case of Ebola. In addition, he consulted with WHO in Geneva as the MERS CoV Incident Manager for the South Korean outbreak.

Dr. Ann Marie Kimball is Senior Consulting Fellow at Chatham House. A physician and epidemiologist, she served as senior program officer and technical and strategic lead for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation surveillance strategy formation. As a Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Washington School of Public Health, Dr. Kimball founded the APEC Emerging Infections Network, leading research and training programs in Peru and Thailand. A Guggenheim Scholar, she also received a Fulbright New Century Scholars award. She wrote Risky Trade: Infectious Diseases in an Era of Global Trade, has served on IOM panels, and is a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine.
