Public Health Specialist, Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work, Office of Antibiotic Stewardship, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Ms. Roberts has worked on the Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention since 2009 and is involved in a variety of programmatic activities including partner outreach, the analysis of antibiotic use data and general program management. She has presented at local, state and national conferences on antibiotic stewardship in the outpatient setting. She has a MS in Healthcare Management from Marymount University in Arlington, VA. Prior to her current focus on appropriate antibiotic use, Ms. Roberts directed a project for a national non-profit focused on working with school leadership to improve healthy eating and physical activity opportunities in public schools.
Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that antibiotic-resistant infections affect 2 million people and cause 23,000 deaths annually in the United States. It is well documented that the primary driver of antibiotic resistance is the use of antibiotics, whether appropriate or inappropriate. The more that is known about how antibiotics are used in all healthcare settings, the more effective stewardship efforts can be to improve how antibiotics are used. Learn what is known about antibiotic use in the United States and how surveillance of antibiotic resistant organisms and infections often related to antibiotic use can inform stewardship activities in hospitals and community settings.
