ISDS One Health Surveillance Case Study Awards – International Society for Disease Surveillance

The purpose of this project is to identify and highlight examples of how professionals have implemented a One Health Surveillance (OHS) approach that integrates animal, human, and environmental surveillance to address a public health threat. 

Working Definition of OHS:

One Health Surveillance (OHS) is the continuous, systematic collection, analysis, and interpretation of health-related data from multiple disciplines to inform collaborative planning, implementation, and evaluation to achieve optimal health for people, animals, and the environment. 

Eligibility:

  1. Any professional working in human, animal, and/or environmental health surveillance from any country is encouraged to apply. Applicants working at for-profit companies must demonstrate collaboration with the public sector. 
  2. Awardees must be available to attend and present at the ISDS Conference in Denver, CO, USA on December 8-10, 2015.
  3. All case studies must be written in English in the application format provided. 
  4. Case Studies must be submitted by Spetember 18, 2015 11:59PM EDT (September 19, 2015 3:59AM GMT).

Review Process: 

The Case Study Review Group will include ISDS OHS Task Team members, ISDS staff, and Skoll Global Threats Fund (SGTF) staff. Three case studies will be chosen for an award. 

Judging Criteria: (20 points total)

  1. Extent of cross-sector collaboration (5 points)
  2. How surveillance data was used to inform action (5 points)
  3. Innovation of the project/activity (5 points)
  4. Overall quality of written submission (5 points)

Awards:

  • Travel and registration for the full 2015 ISDS Pre-conference and Conference in Denver, CO, USA December 8-10, 2015
  • An invitation to present at the OHS Pre-conference Worskhop, December 8, 2015
  • Awardees will be reimbursed for economy airfare, ground transportation, and visa costs (if applicable); hotel costs will be paid directly by ISDS.
