Description and Purpose

A limited number of stipends will be awarded to surveillance researchers and practitioners working outside of the United States to cover travel and registration for the 2012 ISDS Conference. The purpose of this award is to provide ISDS members from outside of the US the opportunity to:

  • Disseminate innovative research and practice being done in one of the four conference tracks:
    • Analytical Methods
    • Public/population health surveillance
    • Informatics
    • Policy
  • Catalyze innovations in global disease surveillance
  • Network with the broader surveillance community

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be considered for the ISDS International Travel Award, you must:

  • Be an ISDS Member at the time of application
  • Submit an abstract that is accepted for presentation at the 2012 ISDS Conference. Deadline for abstract submission is September 6, 2012 at 11:59pm EDT.+
  • Be in need of funding to attend the conference

+Only applicants submitting an abstract that is accepted by the ISDS Scientific Program Committee will be considered to receive a stipend. Applicants will not know the status of their abstract at the time of submitting a stipend application, but ISDS staff will confirm abstract status before offering an award.

Application Requirements

In addition to submitting an abstract, eligible applicants should use the application form to submit the following information no later than September 13, 2012:

  1. Name, address, institutional affiliation, and position title.
  2. Estimated cost of attendance, including travel, accommodations, and conference registration. Please also include whether you have secured partial funding from any other source.
  3. Short statement about how your attendance at the 2012 ISDS Annual Conference would advance the science and practice of disease surveillance in your country (no more than 500 words). If you would like to request funding to attend a Pre-Conference Workshop, please include this in your personal statement.

Awards

Successful applicants will be notified of award by October 12, 2012 (after the abstract review and notification process is complete). 

Award decisions will be made based on:

  • Abstract acceptance by review committee
  • Innovation of work described in the abstract
  • Applicant’s personal statement
